Chandigarh: The Punjab Police on Tuesday said that a lookout circular and non-bailable warrant has been issued against radical preacher Amritpal Singh. Also, the police also said that 4 people have been arrested for helping him escape. The police also released 7 pictures of Amritpal, some of whom are not wearing a turban, to seek the public’s help in catching the fugitive. The police on Saturday launched action against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and members of his outfit ‘Waris Punjab De’, though he managed to elude police.

Amritpal tried to change his appearance

Amritpal was initially in his Mercedes car, but later fled in a Brezza car during the police crackdown on him on Saturday. In a new picture that has surfaced on social media, Amritpal can be seen sitting on the back of a bike wearing a pink turban and dark glasses. This suggests that he tried to change his appearance to avoid the eyes of the police. In the CCTV footage, he can be seen sitting on the bike. In another CCTV footage of Jalandhar toll plaza that surfaced on social media on Tuesday, Amritpal is seen in a Brezza car.

Lookout circular issued against Amritpal
Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said that the 4 arrested persons helped the fugitive escape in an SUV. Later, in a statement, Gill said that a lookout circular and non-bailable warrant have been issued against Amritpal Singh. Police said that during interrogation of these 4 people, it came to light that Amritpal had gone to a Gurdwara in Nangal Ambian village of Jalandhar. “There he (Amritpal) changed his clothes, put on shirt and pant and fled along with three others on two bikes,” Gill said.

Police released 7 pictures of Amritpal Singh
The Inspector General of Police said Manpreet Singh alias Manna, Gurdeep Singh alias Deepa, Harpreet Singh alias Happy and Gurbej Singh alias Bheja have been arrested for helping Amritpal Singh escape. The SUV has been seized and a .315 bore rifle, some swords and a walkie-talkie set have been found in it, he said. The police also released 7 photographs of Amritpal Singh in different attire and appealed to the public to help trace him. The IG said that efforts are on to nab Amritpal and so far 154 people have been arrested in this connection.

Police imposed NSA on 7 people related to Amritpal
Police have also detained Kulwant Singh Raoke of village Raoke and Gurinderpal Singh alias Guri Aujla of Kapurthala under NSA. According to the police, in total 7 people have been detained under NSA. Gill said that amritpal A separate case has been registered for taking shelter at Manpreet Singh, sarpanch of Uddowal village in Jalandhar, after showing threat of arms to Harjit Singh’s uncle and driver Harpreet Singh. Harjit Singh was shifted to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam and Harpreet surrendered before the police in Jalandhar.

‘Full cooperation of state and central agencies to the police’
Gill said the situation in Punjab is completely peaceful and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is monitoring the situation and taking constant ‘feedback’ from police officers. He said that the police officers are getting full cooperation from the states and central agencies in this matter. According to the police, the protest by a group of Nihangs in support of Amritpal near Gurdwara Shaheedan in Mohali’s Sohna has now come to an end and the road is fully functional.
