Srinagar: The management committee of Srinagar’s Jama Masjid in Jammu and Kashmir has claimed that the authorities did not allow congregational prayers on ‘Shab-e-Barat’ at the mosque on Tuesday. The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid said police and administration officials came to the mosque located in Nowhatta area of the city and closed its gates around 5.30 pm.
It was claimed that it has been informed by the authorities that this step has been taken on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar. The Auqaf said it strongly opposed the high-handedness of the authorities and termed the move as a gross violation of religious rights. (input language)
