The eyes of cricket fans around the world are currently focused on the Women’s Premier League. Teams have started announcing their captains for this league. Recently, the team of Mumbai Indians has announced its new captain. Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur is going to take command of this team.
Harmanpreet got a big responsibility
Mumbai Indians on Wednesday named India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur as the captain of their women’s team ahead of the inaugural season of the WPL. Harmanpreet became the first cricketer to play 150 T20 matches while leading India’s campaign in the recently concluded Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. Harmanpreet also holds the record for the highest individual score in a knockout match in the Women’s World Cup. She scored an unbeaten 171 against Australia in the 2017 Women’s ODI World Cup semi-final.

“We are thrilled to have Harmanpreet as the captain of the first women’s cricket team, Mumbai Indians. As national captain, she has led the Indian women’s team to some of their most thrilling victories,” he added. I am sure that with the support of Charlotte and Jhulan, she will inspire our MI Women’s team to play their best cricket and bring glory.
Many veterans included in the team
Harmanpreet has played against the current Mumbai head coach Charlotte Edwards. Also played with captaincy mentor and bowling coach Jhulan Goswami. She is also the first Indian woman cricketer to play in T20 leagues in other parts of the world. Apart from Jhulan and Charlotte, Mumbai also has Devika Palshikar and Lydia Greenway as batting and fielding coaches respectively. Harmanpreet will now lead a team that includes some of the biggest names in women’s cricket as well as youngsters.
