Irani Cup will be played between Madhya Pradesh and Rest of India. Ahead of the match, Rest of India middle-order batsman Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out of the tournament due to a finger injury. On the other hand, opener Mayank Agarwal will lead Rest of India in the Irani Cup. According to the reports, this match was to be played in Indore. But due to the sudden shift of India-Australia match from Dharamshala to Indore, now this Irani Cup match will be played in Gwalior.
Sarfaraz will take time
The report added that Sarfaraz, who has been a prolific run-getter for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in the last three seasons, has been advised eight to 10 days of rest to recover from a finger injury. Sarfaraz had injured his finger while playing in the DY Patil T20 Cup in Mumbai. As of now, he is currently undergoing treatment for the injury at a fitness camp organized by Delhi Capitals in Kolkata.
The report also suggested that Bengal captain Abhimanyu Easwaran could be Agarwal’s opening partner in the Irani Cup. Easwaran was a member of India’s Test squad in Bangladesh in December last year when Rohit Sharma was unavailable due to a thumb injury. Easwaran was also the captain of India A on the tour of Bangladesh, where he scored back-to-back centuries. The match between Madhya Pradesh and Rest of India was earlier to be played in Indore but later it has been decided to be held in Gwalior. This will be the first first-class match to be played in Gwalior in seven years.
