
Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) issues e-passbook i.e. EPF Passbook to the Provident Fund (PF) account holder. EPF passbook contains all the information related to PF account including contribution, interest, withdrawal etc. Digital Passbook is used to track PF balance, contributions made by individuals and interest earned on their PF account.
Apart from this, the e-passbook can also be used as proof of PF contribution while applying for other services. The facility of e-passbook for PF account is available only for those employees who have registered their UAN number with the EPFO portal. Let us take a look at how to register UAN number on EPFO portal and access EPF passbook.
How to register UAN on EPFO portal-
- Visit the official website of EPFO- epfindia.gov.in.
- Now under ‘our service’ section click on ‘For Employees’.
- Select the option “UAN Member e-Services” from the drop-down menu and click on “Sign In”.
- On the next page, tap on “Activate UAN” at the bottom of the login form.
- Enter your UAN, name, date of birth, mobile number and captcha code.
- Click on ‘Get Authorization PIN’.
- You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter OTP and click on “Submit”.
- Once the OTP is verified, you will be asked to create a password for your UAN account. Enter the password and click “Submit”.
- Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number and email address.
- Once your UAN is activated, you can login to your account using your UAN and password.
- After completion of registration of UAN number on EPFO portal, you will be able to download your EPF passbook within six hours after registration.

- Go to EPFO Portal
- Click on “For Employees” option in the menu bar and select “Member Passbook”.
- Now enter your UAN (Universal Account Number) and Password.
- Now you will be able to see the details of your EPF account.
- Click on the “Download e-Passbook” option to download your EPF Passbook.
- Select the year for which you want to download the e-passbook and enter the captcha code.
- Click on “Download” to download your EPF Passbook online.
- You can also check your EPF passbook balance through SMS, missed call or UMANG app.

- To check EPF passbook balance via SMS, confirm that you have registered your mobile number on the EPFO portal.
- Type in your registered mobile number and send SMS to 7738299899.
- The SMS facility is available in a total of 10 languages including English, Hindi, Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, Kannada, Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam and Gujarati.
- The last three characters in the SMS indicate your preferred language. For example, to get information in English type ENG, you have to type HIN, for Hindi.
- Wait for a while after sending the SMS. After this you will get all the information.
