Let us tell you that after some recent incidents in the country, the debate about live-in relationship is intensifying. The Allahabad High Court has observed that it is difficult for a woman to live alone after break-up of a live-in relationship. The court noted that the Indian society generally does not approve of such relationships, and women have to face a lot of difficulties after break-up in such relationships.
Live-in partner was accused of raping a woman
Justice Siddharth’s bench made this comment while hearing the bail plea of Aditya Raj Verma. Verma was arrested by the police for reneging on his promise to marry his live-in partner on 24 November 2022. Verma, accused of raping his married live-in partner Allahabad High Court granted bail but added that it is difficult for a woman to live alone after break-up of a live-in relationship. However, the court granted bail to accused Verma.
‘Husband also refused to accompany’
The woman had alleged that Verma was living with her for the past one-and-a-half years. She had alleged in her complaint that she had become pregnant due to a live-in relationship with accused Verma, but he refused to marry her. The woman also said that the accused sent obscene pictures of the victim to her husband and hence her husband also refused to keep her with him. Based on the woman’s complaint, an FIR was registered against the accused under sections 376 (rape) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
